For the project that I am about to post all the pictures of, I took some photos of my best friend Brittney, whom wanted some zombie, creepy looking pictures... inspired from this kid on myspace.

Going through and editing these pictures I was extremely proud of myself, I used my macro lens, and it made the pictures really clear and I enjoyed it.

I'm going to have to say I am overly proud when it comes to these.

After looking at these pictures and getting so excited, I decided that one of them is defiantly going to state with me.

And this photo was just for a little bit of fun, and humor of the photos:

One of the things I'm the most proud of with this project is how many pictures turned out good and that I'm actually proud of(:
I'm hoping from here on out maybe I can improve my photos, and have more of them on my blog.

I really want to learn how to make a contact sheet,

So I guess that's my next step.

My mom, oddly enough, finds them absolutely repulsive.

For this week, I did a light drawing project, because it seems to be the type of project that everyone is going for lately. I decided to do a project in my room involving light and random things that I enjoy. Including my face. And my favorite Christmas present. And Penguins(:

I hate this picture but I thought I would throw it in because everyone has their downfalls. I really want to try and get better with this so I can take an awesome picture to bring to State(: it would be awesome.

Messing With Portraits.

I decided because we're going to state soon that I would mess around a little bit with the strobes and the other lights that we have offered in the "other room" we have.

With this picture I was trying to get the lighting right with ISO and shutter speeds.

While I was taking these pictures I remembered that I was taking pictures of a subject, so as me and Steve were talking I just kept taking pictures, sort of like Avedon would, to bring out emotions and the craziest moments he decided to act out in front of the backdrop. I think most of them turned out pretty great.

Which is saying a lot with my deep hate for portrait photography, but if I plan on doing any good at State that I'm going to have to learn regardless.

This last picture of Steve I took with a slow shutter, which did a motion blur, and I thought it turned out really cool (aside from the fact that it was blown out). I decided that for my next project I'm going to experiment more with slow shutters in low light situations so that I can get pictures that are motion blurred. I'm quite excited.

Multiple Personality Disorder; A Photo Series

Final Series!
We were told to do a project with something we've had a lot of experience with. However, with this project I did something I am both comfortable with [cloning] and something I'm not so comfortable with [portraits.]
The 7 images I took were Haleigh's "7" different personalities.
1. "H" Sleepy: This photo is an example of the personality Haleigh has where she enjoys the habit of sleep, but don't we all?

2. "A" Musical : This shows Haleigh's interest and style when it comes to the beats that be playing. Or, music.

3. "L" Nerdy : This, personally, besides letter "G" of course, is the best side of Haleigh, her smart, awesome, "I know everything because I'm awesome," side.

4. "E" Artistic : (My favorite sweatshirt and our favorite hobbie.) This side is one that is the photography/theatre/writing side of Haleigh.

5. "I" Girly-ishish : Def the most universal side of her, I've never gone a day of hanging out with her without seeing this side.
6. "G" Crazy. : The "me" side of Haleigh. This is the side of Haleigh that I influence and that I am a part of. When we are together we are the craziest people I have ever seen.
7. "H" Masked Figure : The part of Haleigh that is unknown to the world around her and to the rest of the world besides her inner self. We all have our secrets. Side Note: This photo is suppose to be darker and have the dramatic lighting to represent the "dark" side or "secretive" side.

8. "Haleigh" All together : This is who Haleigh is. She is how and whom she's formed into through her life. I don't know what I would do without her and she is a great influence on my life. Perfect subject for a photography series.

Just to conclude this series, this is a video that Haleigh put together for Theatre, that her, herself, and I stare in. I shot the pictures and did the clone project. She did the rest. (Including the filming)

Surreal Image

I decided that I wanted to do a surreal image that was simple but fun and I decided this one was both. Also, this image makes me laugh because of the fact that I used my dad for the project.

With the image I wanted to do something like this.

So I took two pictures of my dad and put them together into one surreal image, which is totally now rad and awesome. You would agree.

And after putting those two images together I ended up with a picture that looked like this;

I'm sorry I really haven't turned anything in lately... my grades are slipping in every class because of how much school I've missed.

I decided to go more in depth with my project on showing emotions through the photographs I've been taking of my crazy cat. He's way cute (even if he does break expensive Phoenix lens.) Anyways, with this project, I was stalking my cat around the house while he played with my dad's little remote control car (luckily, he didn't break that as well.) I got some pretty awesome shots!

Absent #1 : A-Z

My inspiration this week was from a link I’m pretty sure Mr. Twitchell posted in one of his blog posts on his website. http://digital-photography-school.com/7-photography-projects-to-jumpstart-your-creativity

I will probably be doing some more projects recommended within that website as the weeks are to come. I for now am going to be thinking of a Richard Avedon shot and who I can manage to think of that will show true emotion for it.

Anyways, I went through and put A-Z in order, with minor photoshop work. Note that the M is a picture of a painting, because there was nothing else floating around my house, and it was beautiful.

Be sure to keep an eye out for my project on "light drawing" and random pictures of the Phoenix Cat. Oh hail destroyer.

Write up and Phone Camera!

For the first part of my blog I'm going to do the write up on the only video I was there to watch this week.

Tuesday's Video:

The guy who shot for national geographic: Although I think this would be a very interesting and brilliant job to have and be honored with, I'm not sure it's something I would ever take on. I love the concepts of being able to photograph whatever, where ever. However, if I wanted a family, children, animals, any sort of actual life out side of photography, this job would be really hard for me. Watching this video I honestly felt horrible for that guys family, they had to give up so much so of their love for that man just so he could go take photos for the job that supplies them with food on the table. I mean, taking photos is great, but if it gets to the point where it consumes your whole life... maybe it's time to start looking at something else. I remember him saying, "I would love to take pictures at home, I would take pictures in my back yard if that's where the pictures were." That line really got me. It's true, but I'm sure if he was doing something else, like working for the newspaper or a local magazine, there would be photos in his "back yard." I suppose it all depends on preference.

Now for my second part of my project, you all know my camera lens was broken by my cat (who I don't blame, by the way). My new lens should be here shortly, but for now I'm trying to get creative with taking pictures.

With trying to think of something I could do this week, I remember way back a blog that Twitchell had posted on www.cdaphoto.edublogs.org, so I went searching for it.

Now that there isn't anything that I really want to relate directly with this, except that if you always have your cell phone, and not your actual camera, why not take a picture with your phone camera?

None of these photos are great, at all, to say the least.

It was an experiment, and a blog filler.

Now, I didn't use photoshop on any of these pictures because working with photoshop and little camera files doesn't mix well. Also, generally if you're taking a picture on your phone you can "edit it" before you MSS it to one of your friends or anything of the effect.

I'm not too proud with the little effort that I put into this project, but judging by the fact that I feel like poop, I'm going to give myself a self break.

Animals and best friends

Along with just trying to figure out some more skills with my camera this week, I took some pictures of my animals at my house.

Although Tim Flach goes more into complexity with wild animals and horses I decided that I would take a little bit of my inspiration from him, trying to convey a little bit of emotion of the animals within the concepts of my photography.

It’s become very important to me to try and capture an emotion or something important with a photograph. The way that Haleigh is being herself in both photographs is sort of the way I enjoy them. She’s being a complete nerd, and that’s the way it should be.

Now with this last photo I was honestly just playing around with my camera. Taking some sunset photos for my dad I just thought I should shove onto my blog to clutter it up even more, there’s never too much… but there can be too little.

Aside from the fact that my camera lens is now broken, and I'm looking into buying a new one, this sums up this weeks blog.

I'm hoping to borrow Haleigh's lens this week so I can mantain some pictures, if not I'll just borrow my mom's point and shoot.

Idiom and other pictures!

For this weeks blog post I decided to try and go above and beyond my past ideas because I feel really upset with myself for not only letting down my parents with everything bad I'd been doing, but letting down my favorite teacher by blowing off one of the only things he ever asks us to do.

The first part of my post is mostly just random pictures that I took of random things.

For all these pictures I was really just having some fun with my camera and experimenting with photoshop. I decided that I would try out some black and white because black and white photos make me really mad... so they are over dramatic a little bit, but that's honestly the only way I can really stand them.

For the second half I did the idiom part of the photography project.

During this week of taking pictures I learned a lot about my photography and where I want to go. Although, lately because of how emotional I am... taking pictures is really hard for me, but I think I can focus that energy into the pictures that I take in the next few weeks to come. I bet you guys are going to be seeing a lot of depressing photos, it'll be fun to watch my mood through my work.

Portraits, of variation.

First off: This project is being turned in on a Saturday night... and I figure you can dock me points for that if you would like. HOWEVER. I was sick two days this week, and I was actually sick... in bed. So, you should give me a break, it's in.

I decided that I would take some portrait pictures because that is one of the items you wanted us to focus on in the new few weeks.

Part One:

To start out with I did a little more with the people of Silverwood Theme Park.

The first project, Haleigh and I were walking around the park, and we decided to talk to Mrah (Mariah), she was not very enthushed that I wanted to take her picture... especially after Haleigh had already snapped a few shots of her in the previous weeks.

With photoshop, I did some level work, trying to avoid using any type of sharpening tool. I did not want to "over-sharpen" an image once again.

This is a picture of our rides supervisor doing some work... rare.

I only lightened up and added a little bit of contrast to this photo.

This is a picture of a ride operator hanging out in the office.

All of the cool kids get the chairs.

I enjoyed this picture because it showed a real side of Sean.

I tried to make the picture have a cool effect... which I think I established.

Zack, one of the funniest people in the rides team. He's a trainer, the brother of the other trainer that I already posted a picture of. He's awesome.

I cropped in on the picture because I figured without rules of 3rd going for him to be looking at something, all the space behind him was wasted. I also didn't want him to look like "his future had cut off or something."

I totally decided to go a little Richard Avedon on you this time!

You showed us last year and the year before that he tries to show real emotion, that's what I did with two different pictures and two different emotions using Taylor Jensen. I just let her sit in front of a back drop in my room, using window light and manual mode, and I snapped some pictures while she was talking to Haleigh, Taylor Hall, and me.

Thus far I am most proud of this project because I've been constantly trying to push myself in order to get a better effect and learn more about the areas of photography that make me the most angry. I'm probably going to end up doing a black and white sort of project sometime in the near future... because I absolutely hate the concept of what black and white photography has turned into.

Anyways, now that I've told you I'm proud of myself... you can tell me that my pictures are overly edited, and I can linger in it all week.

Color Focus!

Part One:

This part of my project has little or nothing to do with color. Twitchell asked to to take someone's senior picture and I did.

While I was taking this picture, despite the fact that portrait photography is something I loath, I tried to listen to what Myron wanted most.

I snapped a few shots and then showed him the pictures, it was a little frustrating at first because he didn't like anything I was doing.

Finally, I got a shot that he enjoyed, despite Stephan's complaining of "cut off limbs."

As you can see, the picture, before I edited it, looked over exposed and had a rather soft look to it. I edited the picture using Adobe Photoshop CS3, and added some texture to the picture with a high pass filter and soft light. I also used a burning technique that Stephan taught me. After a few different layers and edits, I decided that the picture seemed well enough to send to Mr. Louis; which I did. I am looking forward to seeing my photo in the year book, it seems sort of exciting.

Part two:

This part of my project was the focus on color part. With these images I was trying to convey a sense of color shown at my place of employment- Silverwood Theme Park. I got my inspiration for these images here:

Although, at this website they photographed more the rides than the other things within the park, and I decided to do the exact opposite. I photographed the people, the food items, the employees. It all seemed a lot more "colorful" than the simple rides themselves. (Which aren't very colorful at Silverwood, except Aftershock!)

Picture One:

This is a picture of a cotton candy vendor that happened to be closed when I took a picture of it. In Photoshop I changed the colors and a little bit to get them to pop a little more, and put a high pass filter-soft light-layer mask on the cotton candy place. I always find in ironic that it's mostly for cotton candy and it looks a lot like an old school popcorn maker.

Picture Two:

This image was taken to show color in a soft of dark setting. Haleigh and I were sitting on a bench in the shade, and I decided that this would be a cool shot of a ride stick. People hate those things... a lot of ride operators get yelled at over the height restrictions being off.

Picture Three:

This image, Haleigh and I were riding scrambler. I was going to take a picture of her, but she got upset with me, so I moved the camera to something more interesting. I love the red and blue contrast on this picture, with the faint out of focus corkscrew and middle of the ride in the background.

Picture Four:

These are both picture of employees at silverwood, the top one is Shaun, and the bottom one is Sam. Shaun is a ride operator and Sam is the rides supervisor. Both very cool people. I decided that these pictures went hand in hand because I took them with the mindset that the shirts would be the emphasis on color.

Out of all the projects I've done, I think I'm most proud of this one... the more I take pictures and the more I experiment on my own the happier I am with the photos I've been taking. These projects have become more than just a weekly grade in my life, they're sort of a fine line of organization, which I have missed a lot during the summer.

I'm looking forward to the portrait section.

So I've been sick for the last two days at home, and I decided that I would take pictures of a few things from this website. I had to brainstorm ideas, and I decided that a scavenger hunt would be a very good idea. Something I could do around my house, and wouldn't die because of.

Right now I am sifting through ideas of what I want to do for the scavenger hunt. I am thinking as of right now.

- Something Silver.

- Flames.

- Coffee.

- Something in black and white.

Something Silver

I took this picture as a staged photograph. Most of the pictures I took for this project were staged. Actually, all the pictures we took were staged, I do believe. Flames

I enjoyed the high contrasts of this picture and the three different colored candles. I originally wanted to take a picture of a piece of paper burning outside, but the light was too bright to catch a good picture of the flame. Coffee.

Okay, so I did tea, because I decided that tea would be good for my sickness. I hate being sick, and tea always seems to make me feel better. I love the sugar with the spoon on the side of the picture. Before I put that there I figured it was missing something, and I decided something sweet would go quite nicely into the picture. Black and White.

Cat.

Flower.

This is a picture of a flower, and it was a little ironic how I put the flower in a flowered flower pot. It made me laugh a little bit, I enjoy the picture. I know this isn't the best I could've done for this project, but I tried my hardest with the resources I had due to the fact that I am house ridden do to my sickness.

I will be in school tomorrow.

"A New Style for Me"

No, it is not 12:03 on a school night, and it is defiantly not the last school night before this project is due.

I was debating everything that I was going to post into this blog, and then it became lost, and floated out of my mind.

My project was originally littering on beaches and other public socialising spots, but then I decided that littering wouldn't be a very fun subject to do a whole project on. However, trying to find a project at the last minute I thought, "hey, why not tie two things I love doing together?" So you know what I did? I went to a show. Well, a "concert."

During this concert I decided that I would do something I have never tried yet.

(I have been in photography for 2 going on 3 years now... and I have never learned how to use my f-stops and ISO, so I experimented with my camera while I took pictures of some bands.)
I decided that I was very glad that I have an SLR, and I now look forward to picture taking more than I use to... you know, now that I know what the heck I'm doing when I'm holding an expensive piece of equipment in my hand.

The first few pictures I took weren't so great...

"First Attempt"

My first picture got me down for sure. However, I wanted to keep working on my ideas and try and expand it a little further in order to gain skill and learn more how to work with my camera. I was not going to give up, and I was most certainly not going to go back to automatic mode. I had a goal to learn manual mode.

"Feel the Energy"

After a while I started getting the hang of it. When I went back through and did some photoshop work, I took some information from the videos and used the highpass filter with the soft light over lay. I decided that the highpass filter and soft light, are now my very best friends. It's like music... I go through commands in photoshop like I go through songs I put on repeat. I really enjoyed the first picture, because I always felt "orange lighting" in a band picture... was "energy" of the person singing.

"Let's Mosh!"

After fooling around with taking pictures and getting shoved into the stage more than once, I decided to take pictures of the mosh.

I loved this one because of the whole "energy concept" once again, and because the kid in the hat seems to be having such a jolly good time!

This was the one and only time during the whole night that I was okay with using my automatic setting. I wanted to catch a neat picture, and my settings were getting a little mixed up, so I put automatic on, and I personally think I got an awesome shot of these kids.

Goodnight Sunrise was the last band that my friend stayed to listen to. (We got hungry.) Now I know that this picture is not photography at all, in fact it's completely against the rules of photography... but then again, are there rules?! I CONSIDER THIS ART! I love the colors, the energy. They happened to be singing a slow song. Awesome, right?
And they're ghosts, how cool?!

Both of these pictures of Dan were once I managed to get my camera under control for about the hundredth time.

What happened, is I guess Goodnight Sunrise needs a darker stage than everyone else...

Yeah, that was fun to figure out.

And as I draw my final conclusions about my project... I decide that this blog post is far too long, and there is nothing I can do about it. I'm thinking back to all the paper towel and toilet paper commericals now. "Less is more..." well that just sucks when it comes to this blog post, doesn't it?
